Designed from ground up
Mabkhara’s are widely used in many households around the Muslim world. Traditionally, they are made from Teak wood and handmade with very simple designs. You can acquire very elegant ones which are designed in metal also. They all share the same design concept. In the UK, it is difficult to come across teak wood strips. You have to plane the hardwood down, that is why most of the time the traditional Mabkhara’s are imported.
In Islam, accomplishing certain tasks in odd numbers is significant. Imam Tirmidhi mentions a Hadith in which The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is reported to have said, “Certainly Allah is odd and loves that which is odd.” As for the Motif at the back, it reminds me of the round inscribed lettering on the doors of the Prophet ﷺ Masjid in Medina.
